Jack Edge Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home and Cremation Chapel - Covington on Oct. 22, 2023.
This obituary was lovingly prepared by the family
One less around our table means one more in the presence of our glorious Heavenly Father. Wayne entered into His Presence on Friday, October 20, 2023. Wayne was born in Porterdale on June 10, 1941 to Effie and Jodie Edge. He would tell you there was no better place to grow up than Porterdale where doors were always open to the neighborhood kids. There were tons of family and life-long friends to play with. They would play ball, invent games, and swim in the river from morning until after dark. Later, Wayne was a lifeguard and taught dozens to swim at the Porterdale pool.
He left that small town for a brief period in 1961 when he enlisted in the Navy. He and his best friend, George Harper, left for their first big adventure. He loved serving his country but also loved visiting all the countries he had only heard about.
After returning home he met and married Brenda (Raines) his wife of 57 years. They built a home outside of Covington and embarked on another adventure as they raised, loved, and taught their three children, Brent, Brandon, and Lori. Wayne never met a stranger. He loved to talk and always had a story to tell or an opinion which he would be happy to share. Wayne loved being with family and looked forward to weekly family suppers with kids and grandkids. He loved annual family trips to the beach, Disney World, and the mountains.
Wayne was a member of High Point Baptist Church for 57 years serving as a Sunday School teacher for 4 and 5 year olds for many years. Wayne retired from the Georgia World Congress Center but still worked for himself for years as a painter in Covington. He always liked to say he had painted most of the homes in Covington.
Wayne will be terribly missed by his wife, Brenda, son Brandon (Heather), daughter Lori (Jeff), grandchildren Joselyn and Joseph Edge, Hayden, Holden and Hannah Edge, Layna and Steele Cher, and brother and sister-in-law Bill and Sylvia Edge.
Services will be held for Wayne Thursday, October 26 at 3:00pm at High Point Baptist Church, 12025 Hwy 36, Covington with pastor Jason Johnson officiating. Family and friends are invited to visit with the family at the church on Thursday from 1:00-3:00 pm prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Wayne's memory to Longleaf Hospice, 1160 Monticello Street SW, Covington, GA 30014.
