Jack Gaskill Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Goldfinch Funeral Home - Litchfield-Pawleys Chapel on Mar. 8, 2023.
Jack Lee Gaskill of Pawleys Island, SC, formerly of West Chester, PA, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 4, 2023.
Jack was born on March 30, 1933 in Indianapolis IN, the only child of Carl Dean Gaskill and Adeline Davis Gaskill. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1956 with a degree in architecture and design. He served two years in the U.S. Army before embarking on a career as an architect and home builder in Indianapolis. He then moved with his young family to Anchorage, KY, where he began a long career with General Electric Corporation, serving as a sales executive in Louisville, KY, Phoenix, AZ, and Philadelphia, PA. After many years with GE, Jack returned to his home building roots and established a home inspection business that served the eastern Pennsylvania and Maryland regions. Additionally, he served as an instructor at Delaware County Community College in Pennsylvania and later at Chesapeake College in Maryland. Following many years in the Philadelphia area, Jack and his wife, Shirley, initially retired to Chestertown, MD, before returning to the Philadelphia area and West Chester, PA. Jack enjoyed golf, boating, and the arts in retirement, and he was a member of the Lions Club. Jack ultimately moved to Pawleys Island to be closer to his son, and he was an active member of The Lakes of Litchfield community. Jack was an accomplished artist, and he displayed many of his watercolors at exhibits. Most recently, Jack wrote and published his first novel, The Sparkling Eye. Jack was a member of the Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church, where he enjoyed singing in the choir.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 22 years, Shirley Edwards Gaskill. Jack is survived by his son Scott Christopher Gaskill and daughter-in-law, Isabel, of Pawleys Island and their children, Claire and Bradford; as well as his late wife's children (and their families), Gwynne Edwards Tracy, Ted Edwards, Jr., Joan Edwards Cloetingh, the late Barbara Edwards Cloetingh, and Neil Edwards. He is additionally survived by his former wife, Diane Gaskill, and a son Mark Gaskill.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 3:00 pm at the Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church, 9967 Ocean Hwy, Pawleys Island. Family will receive friends at a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests charitable contributions to the American Cancer Society.
