WINTHROP – Jack Roger Hartson passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, October 12, 2025 at his home with family at his side after a strong and courageous 10-year battle with cancer. Jack was born on January 3, 1960 to Clyde and Ruth (Moulton) Hartson. He was the seventh of eight children. He was a strong, stubborn and independent child who enjoyed being outside, working on the family farm and tinkering on anything with moving parts. He spent much of his younger years with his Gramp Maynard Hartson who joyously taught him to weld, fix and run Heavy Equipment. Jack married the love of his life Patricia (Trimm) Hartson on October 18, 1980 and shared two daughters, Samantha and Stefanie. Jack worked a few jobs early on, driving truck for Patricia's brother Steve before working as an Equipment Operator with the NYSDOT out of Massena, retiring in 2015. He kept many roadside trinkets from over the years to give to Joe for Christmas.
Jack enjoyed many years with his wife watching their daughters grow and teaching them the finer things, like how to ride a bike, drive a manual, pile wood correctly, rebuild tractors, change a tire and oil, run heavy equipment and that everything has a specific place and most importantly, that the lawn is to be well manicured and is not for walking or driving on. He was very proud of his daughters and the women they have become. Jack loved spending time with his grandchildren and watching them grow into the wonderful young adults they have become. He loved watching Loretta on the four-wheeler and her spunky go getter spirit. He was especially close to his grandson Derrik, they were often found attached at the hip, teaching him things like how to rebuild carburetors, small and big engines, chainsaws, cutting wood, running equipment, driving standard and how to fabricate and weld. Jack also enjoyed the time he and his brother Archie, sister-in-law Rose and their children Jennifer and Matthew spent together. Living next door to each other, they shared a tremendous bond helping and leaning on each other. He was very proud of them and their accomplishments. Jack loved working around the house - mowing, cutting wood, tinkering and fabricating and always keeping busy. Many long nights and happy days were spent in his Crane Road Customs Garage with his brother Archie, brother-in-law Herb, beloved uncle Chuck and his son-in-law's Joe and Jon and grandson Derrik, whether it be conversing over a beer to working on a project, they were always doing something together.
Jack was a very prideful man who loved his family dearly. He would do anything for anyone. Jack is survived by his wife of 44 years, Patricia; two daughters, Samantha and Joseph Fiacco and Stefanie and Jon Latimer; his four beloved grandchildren, Derrik, Loretta, Tyler and Miranda Fiacco and Carly and Donald Fiacco Seguin; his three great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Elowen and Emberlyn. He is also survived by his siblings, Shirley Dubois, Connie and Steve Cockayne, Linda Greenwood, Claude and Nancy Hartson, Jerry and Lucy Hartson, Steve Trimm, Florence and Walt Douglas, Sterling and Roxy Trimm, Herb Trimm, John Trimm, Stacey and Rodney Aldous, Cindy Trimm and Tracey and Deb Trimm as well as several nieces and nephews.
Jack was pre-deceased by his parents Clyde and Ruth Hartson, Sterling and Gloria Trimm, his favorite uncle, Charlie Hartson, a brother C. Archie Hartson and sister Nancy Hartson, brother-in-law's Bill Dubois, Virgil Greenwood, Wayne Arquitt and sister-in-law's Joanne Trimm and Sandy Trimm as well as his close friends Lowell Todd, Ron Casey, Tim Hatch and Steve Munson. His family would like to thank all the nurses at the Cancer Center and Dr. Val for all the special care and encouragement he received over the last ten years. Also, a special thanks to Amanda, Asia and Jackie from Hospice who helped keep Jack comfortable in his last days. Per Jack's wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Celebration of life gathering will be held at the Massena Moose Lodge where he was a member for many years on Saturday, November 1, 2025 from 12 noon - 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley in Jack's honor and memories and condolences may be shared online at www.buckfuneralhome.com.
