Jack C Johnson

Jack C Johnson 1939 - 2024 passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on March 12, 2024. Jack was born June 9, 1939, in Heber, Utah to Norman Henry Johnson and Maxine W Crittenden. He was the first of four sons and later a big brother to two sisters and a brother. 

 Jack was raised by his great-aunt Hazel Lefler, who he called grandma Lefler. He also spent time at grandma and grandpa Crittenden’s home. Jack learned from them the value of hard work while working on their farms. Even though Jack’s childhood was difficult at times, he found enjoyment riding horses, hunting, fishing, going to dances, and participating the in the occasional drag race. 

 After graduating from South Summit High School, Jack worked in the coal mines with his father. The tragic death of his brother, was a turning point in his life and he decided to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was called to Oslo, Norway and served there faithfully for two-and-a-half years. 

Once home, Jack enlisted in the United States Army and enrolled at Utah State University. While picking up a friend at the women’s dorm, Snow Hall, he saw Lee Ann Perkins, walking down the stairs and instantly fell in love. Jack married Lee Ann, the love of his life, in the Salt Lake Temple on September 3, 1965.

 Jack graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Utah State University with the goal to be a teacher. He taught world geography at Olympus Junior High for 32 years. During that time, he earned a master’s degree from University of Utah in Geography. Jack enjoyed telling stories to his students, but would never reveal if they were true or not. He always had Jolly Rancher’s in his desk to throw to a student if they answered a question correctly. Jack would tell you he was a tough teacher and not many of the students liked him because he didn’t accept late work. He would say only the students that wanted to work hard liked him.

 Jack and Lee Ann were blessed with a son and four daughters. To provide for his family, Jack would often work second jobs at night and on weekends. Jack and Lee Ann budgeted and saved money to ensure their family never did without. As a father, Jack always made time to play “hut”, buck and bull, or fox and geese with his kids. He enjoyed taking his family on camping adventures and going to Yellowstone National Park. Jack has a wonderful sense of humor that kept Lee Ann and his children laughing. He loved to tease and tell stories to his children and grandchildren. Jack cared for each of his family’s homes and as an avid gardener, his beautiful yards bloomed year-round.

 Jack’s heart is one of service. He continually helped those in need with no complaints. Along with his personal service, he also gave his time to serve the Lord through many church callings and with Lee Ann served three missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Nauvoo Illinois, the Conference Center in Salt Lake City, and the Spanish Kamas Valley Branch.

 After Jack retired, he started a “little hobby” which was his life-long dream of owning horses and a piece of land back home in the Summit Valley. He spent so much time away with his new hobby that they finally built a home and moved to Francis, so they wouldn’t be apart. Jack loved caring for and riding his horses through the Uintah Mountains with his kids, grandkids, and friends. 

 Shortly after deciding to sell their home in Francis and move to the city to be closer to their grandchildren, both Jack and Lee Ann were diagnosed with different forms of cancer. Two months after moving to Riverton, Utah, Lee Ann passed away July 29, 2023. Jack continued to battle his cancer for eight long months, missing Lee Ann every day. He is now back where he belongs, “Back in Baby’s Arms”. 

 Leading by example, Jack passed on the values of hard work, service, and integrity to his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and countless others he influenced throughout his life. He was a loving husband and a caring father and grandfather. His loss will be felt deeply. Jack is survived by his siblings: Donald Johnson, Dianne Hill, Carrie Sue Ditton, and Bart Johnson. His five children and their spouses: Lee Norman Johnson (Angela), Jacci Lin Madison (Jeff), Nancy Johnson Chen (Michael), Amanda Carol White (Kendal), and Holli Johnson Sorensen (Daniel). He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by his wife Lee Ann Johnson and two brothers Gary Norman Johnson and Dick Crittenden Johnson

 A viewing will be held Sunday, March 17, 2024 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at 12154 S. 3600 W. Riverton, Utah 84065

 On Monday, March 18, 2024 a viewing will be held prior to the memorial service from 11:30 AM - 12:45 PM. 

The memorial service will begin at 1:00 PM. Francis 2nd Ward - 387 W. Last Frontier Lane Francis, Utah 84036.

 Interment will be at the Francis City Cemetery immediately following the service.
