Jack Lipscomb Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, Inc. - Springfield on Jan. 9, 2024.
Jack Eugene Lipscomb was born August 30, 1927, in Springfield, Missouri, to Forest Wayland Lipscomb Sr. and Elizabeth Cotner Lipscomb. Residing first on Pickwick Avenue until moving to Sunshine Street, he attended Sunshine Elementary School, then Greenwood and, finally, Kemper Military Academy, graduating in 1945. Jack was a Sigma Nu at Drury College, later transferring to the University of Missouri, where he graduated in 1951 after marrying the love of his life, Cathryn Lee Cox in 1949.
Jack was a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force before returning to Springfield and joining Lipscomb Grain and Seed Company to work with his father and his brother. In 1958, he was asked to run Pioneer Advertising Company for Lester E. Cox and eventually bought the company and grew it to cover nearly half the state with billboards. He was awarded the Outdoor Advertising Association of America (OAAA) Hall of Fame award in 1993.
Jack and his beloved "Kitty" loved to travel the world with friends and family. In the mid-1980's they found Palm Desert to be their winter home where they made many friends and would live four months of the year. Jack loved golfing and Palm Desert was the perfect place for this. In 1997, while playing in the Hickory Hills Country Club Shafter with brother-in-law Gus Enloe, Jack scored a hole-in-one on #7, winning a new car, truly a highlight of his golfing.
Jack served as Potentate of Abou Ben Adhem in 1973, and was a member of the Springfield Airport board in the early 1960s, Hickory Hills Country Club and First and Calvary Presbyterian Church.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife Cathryn (Kitty) Lipscomb, parents Forest and Elizabeth, his brother Forest, Jr., brother-in-law Gus Enloe and his son-in-law Gary Bayer.
He is survived by his sister Marjorie Enloe, daughter Cindy Bayer, son Larry Lipscomb (Tracy), grandchildren Lauren Tew (Jason), Lanna Britt (Tim), Stephanie Madsen (Michael), Stuart Lipscomb (Lauren) and Andrew Lipscomb. Great-grandchildren include Jackson, Grant, Madison and Lincoln Tew; Trey, Clara Grace and Cora Anne Britt; Benjamin, Henry and Sam Madsen; Helen and Ruth Lipscomb.
Services will be held at 2pm on Friday, January 19, at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at Hazelwood Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Seasons Hospice and Turners Rock for their wonderful care. Donations may be made to the CoxHealth Foundation for the Cox College Nursing Scholarship Fund in honor of Cathryn and Jack Lipscomb.
