John "Jack" Martin Pollitt, a longtime resident of Elsie and Houghton Lake, Michigan, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2025, after a courageous two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. He was 84 years old.
Born on October 17, 1940, in Lansing, Michigan, Jack was one of three children of John and Helen (Tomeck) Pollitt. He graduated from Sexton High School and soon after he enlisted in the United States Army where he served honorably as a paratrooper.
Following his military service, Jack returned home and began a long career at General Motors, where he worked his way up to general foreman. On December 11, 1987, Jack married Dianna Ackels and they shared over 26 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in 2011. After her passing, Jack made their beloved cabin on Houghton Lake his permanent home.
An avid outdoorsman, Jack found joy in hunting and fishing, often seen casting a line on Houghton Lake. He was a passionate fan of Detroit Tigers baseball and Lions football. In recent years, when not in the woods or on the water, Jack could be found sharing laughs and "lies" with friends at Shakers restaurant in Houghton Lake.
Jack was a man of great humor, generosity, and heart. Known for his quick wit and always joking spirit, he was well loved by all who knew him. He had a natural ability to connect with people and gave selflessly to his community, especially to his fellow residents on the lake.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Shelly (Joseph) Coty; son, John (Michele) Pollitt IV; grandchildren, Jenna (Adam) Perkins, Taylor (Alex) Smith, Brayden Smith, the late Aaron Pollitt, and Derrick Pollitt; and great-grandchildren, Travis, Logan, Greyson, and Cora. He is also survived by his siblings, Janet (Pastor John) Jakus and Robert (Kathleen) Pollitt; sister-in-law, Dorthey Laight; his companion and best friends, Sharon Whitcher; his best friends, Don and Judy Lambie and their son, Mark; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
A Memorial Service will be on September 13, 2025, 11 AM at Faith Fellowship Bible Church, 3955 W. Price Road, St. Johns. Pastor John Jakus officiating. His ashes will be interred at Riverside Cemetery in Elsie.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Faith Fellowship Bible Church or to AdvisaCare Hospice.

Uncle Jack, so many wonderful memories from going over for cards night on Summer Lane - "Fat Jack" and "Tricky Dick" always tossing quarters under the table for all of us to find. I'm sure my dad's been saving a seat at the card table and can't wait to hear your stories and jokes once again! I will never forget your humor and kindness - love you Uncle Jack. ~Jill
