Jack Vervaet Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gaita Memorial Home on Oct. 15, 2024.
Jack D. Vervaet, a staple in the North Haledon community, passed away just five days shy of his 78th birthday at the Veterans Home in Paramus, N.J. on Sunday, Oct. 13th, 2024.
Born in Beach Grove, Indiana, Jack moved to North Haledon at the age of four and dedicated his life to the town he cherished. A proud Vietnam veteran, Jack served his country with honor and commitment. He was a valued member of the American Legion Post #428 in North Haledon. Throughout his 30-year career in law enforcement, Jack made a lasting impact as an officer with the North Haledon Police Department, ultimately serving as a Homicide and Arson Detective. His dedication to justice and community safety earned him deep respect among colleagues and residents alike.
Jack was known for his love of storytelling, often sharing tales from his life and career with family and friends. He was also an avid fan of the NY Mets and NY Giants. His fondness for cigarettes was a testament to his character, unfiltered and true to himself. Jack leaves behind a rich legacy, marked by service, dedication, and love for his community. He will be remembered not only for his contributions as a veteran and law enforcement officer but also for the warmth and wisdom he shared with all who knew him.
Predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Edith (Tex) Vervaet, he is survived by his precious daughters, Jennifer and her fiancé, Michael Golding and Brittany; treasured grandchildren, Victoria and Antonio La Terra; dear siblings, Robert and his wife, Donna and Kimberly Vervaet; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends who will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be on Friday, Oct. 18th from 4-8 p.m. with funeral services that include Military Honors to begin at 7:30 p.m. at Gaita Memorial Home, 154 Newark Pompton Turnpike, Little Falls, N.J. Memories and condolences may be shared at gaitamh.com.
