Reverend Jack Douglas Weaver

Rev. Jack Douglas Weaver, 93, of Spartanburg, SC, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 22, 2022. He was born in Greenville, SC on June 11, 1929 to the late Rev. William and Viola Fair Weaver. Both he and his father were ordained as ministers in the same service in February 1950.
He is survived by his wife of 72 yers, Martha Marieta (Rita) McCarley, having met and then graduated from Spartanburg High School, and married in 1950. There are two surviving daughters, Cheryl Yurko (John), and Debbie Moore (Bill). He was preceded in death by their son, Kris Randall Weaver. There are 5 surviving grandchildren: Wesley Stamey (Clarksville, Tenn), Allison Frk, husband Bret (Asheville, NC), Emily Wade, wife Jamie (Durham, NC), Chad Caldwell (Reidsville,NC), Taylor Weaver (Spartanburg, SC). In addition, there are 5 surviving great-grandchildren: Amelia Stamey, Claire Stamey, Cooper Stamey, Wade Frk and Avery Frk.
In 1953, Jack received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Furman University, Greenville, SC. He graduated with a Master of Theology Degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, NC in 1957. He and Rita began their pastoral ministry in July, 1950 at Converse Baptist Church, Converse, SC. Jack had just had his 21st birthday. They served there for 7 years. From Converse, Jack and Rita served together, as Pastor and wife, for an additional 47 years. They also served Temple Baptist Church, Kings Mountain, NC; Chiquola Baptist Church, Honea Path, SC; Village Drive Baptist Church, Fayetteville, NC; First Baptist Church, Morehead City, NC; Sugar Creek Baptist Church; Charlotte, NC; Crestwood Baptist Church, Winston Salem, NC; Green Creek First Baptist Church, Green Creek, NC; and Park Hills Baptist Church (now Silver Hills), Spartanburg, SC. After retiring from full time work in June 1991, they returned to the active ministry to pastor Piemont Baptist Church, Chesnee, SC for an additional five years. Later, in retirement, he served as interim pastor for six area churches: Second Baptist Church, Clifton, Arcadia First Baptist Church, Zion Hill Baptist Church, Hickory Grove Baptist Church, and United Baptist Church. He continued to supply various churches, conduct funerals, perform weddings, and speak about his love for Jesus and invited, until he was physically unable to do so.
Jack was active in several county Baptist Associations, once serving as President Mecklenberg Pastor's Conference, President Polk Pastor's Conference, Chairman Associational Boards Nominating Committee, Arrangements Committee Graham Crusade, Secretary-Treasurer Southeastern Alumni Association, Moderator Atlantic Baptist Association. He also serve as Chaplain for Fort Macon Coast Guard Station in Atlantic Beach, NC while pastor at First Baptist Church, Morehead City, NC.
He was a member of Rotary in Morehead City and in Charlotte, NC. He served as Chaplain for Polk Central High School Football Team. In addition, he served as Secretary Green Creek Ruritan Club, Polk County Schools Advisory Board, PTA Member, and Cub Scouts Leader. In his early years he loved playing sports, especially baseball, football, and golf. His favorite outdoor activity was camping with family and friends, either in a tent, or in a fifth wheel campler. He lived a very full life, with family and many wonderful friends, while trying to be a good and faithful servant to our Lord, Jesus Christ.
In his own words, "Rita and I received Christ into our lives in our early teens. We have as our greatest wish to be faithful and fruitful in the work God has given us".
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 31, at 3 pm in United Baptist Church, Spartanburg, SC. Due to Covid resurgance, there will not be a family visitation or receiving line. The family encourages mask wearing while inside. Private burial will be at a later time in green Creek First Baptist Church Cemetery, Green Creek, NC.
