Jack Wheeler Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Penzien-Steele Funeral Home - In Bay City on Jan. 26, 2026.
Jack Carl Wheeler, age 91, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at the Holston Health and Rehabilitation Center on January 19, 2026. He was born on August 31, 1934, in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Jack was a graduate of the University of Michigan, where he played football for several years; later, he served his country honorably as a member of the Air National Guard.

Jack held degrees in both Chemical Engineering and Accounting, the latter being the mainstay of his working years. He liked traditional country, polka and gospel music and he enjoyed watching college football, particularly his alma mater. Although he moved around the country a number of times, he lived a simple life, guided by a quiet, steady faith and a character of integrity.

Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Selma (Burgess) Wheeler; his sons, Andrew Wheeler and Robert Wheeler; his stepsons, John Konkle and Chuck Creighton; his stepdaughters, Jennifer (Creighton) McKinney and Suzie Creighton; his granddaughter, Jacqueline M. (Wheeler) Nolan; and his great-grandson, Tekoa Rei Nolan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Showalter) Wheeler (d. 1983) and his second wife, Anna (Davis) Wheeler (d. 2007); also, his sisters, Marilyn (Wheeler) Vena (d. 2022) and Kaye (Wheeler) Palomaki (d. 2024).

Jack will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. His life and faith now find their rest in the eternal peace of God.

Private burial has taken place at St. Patrick Cemetery in Bay City, Michigan.

"Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord… that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them."
