Norton Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to share with you the following obituary on behalf of the Mason family and Baker Funeral Home. All services have been entrusted to Baker Funeral Home of Kershaw, SC.
Jackie W. “Joe” Mason, age 68, of McBee S.C., passed away, Friday, September 27, 2024, at his home. He was born in Statesville, N.C. on February 5, 1956. He was the step-son of the late Roman “Pops” Versch and the son of Ovell Gregory Versch. Joe was a machinist/mechanic in the heavy equipment industry. He enjoyed watching westerns, eating good cooking, working and building things. He loved the outdoors, horses and animals. He could always make you smile as he was a good practical joker. Joe also loved the FFA.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Martha Newman Mason; his siblings, Doug Mason and his wife, Scarlett of McBee, S.C., Judy Thompson and her husband, Chuck of Camden, S.C., Libby Connor and her husband, Eugene of Hiddenite, N.C. and Pedy Mason of McBee, S.C. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Hilary (Tony) Amerson, Casey (Billy Stacey) Reid, Joseph (Amber) Mason, Jerry Mason and Chase Mason, and great nieces and nephews, Mason Ritz, Gregory Reid, Dalton Pratt, Jasper Reid, Baileigh Stacey and Leigh Ann Mason.
The family will greet friends one-hour prior to the service on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, beginning at 2:30 P.M. in the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
A service to celebrate and remember his life will be held immediately following the visitation beginning at 3:30 P.M. in the church sanctuary.
Memorial remembrances may be made to Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 2140 McBee Highway, Jefferson, S.C. 29178.
