Jackie Ray Meade

Jackie Ray "Shaggy" Meade, age 55, of the Campbell Hollow section of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Thursday morning (June 5, 2025) in an Abingdon, Virginia hospital. Born June 27, 1969 in Tazewell County, Virginia, he was the son of Sue Lowe Meade of Honaker, Virginia and the late Fredrick "Elmer Lee" Meade. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a 1989 graduate of Honaker High School. He was employed as a mechanic at Outdoor Country and had previously worked as a coal miner and a detailer at several area car dealerships. He had formerly served as a volunteer for New Garden Rescue Squad. He enjoyed being outdoors and spent many hours outside working on vehicles and fishing. He never met a stranger and would always take time to share a kind word and a smile with his friends and neighbors anytime he saw them.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by Otis Hess, whom he considered his father-in-law.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include one daughter, Shauna Peck of Honaker, Virginia; his loving companion, Rachel Hess of Honaker, Virginia; brothers, Jeff Meade and wife, Regina, of Lebanon, Virginia, Robert Junior Meade and companion, Tina, of Nickelsville, Virginia, and Chris Meade of Honaker, Virginia and one sister, Elizabeth Whitt and husband, Chris, of Tennessee; half-siblings, Cathy McGlothlin, Willard Meade, Connie Fletcher and husband, Eddie, Ronnie Meade and wife, Barbara; special niece, Megan Wilson and husband, Doug; several additional nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
There will be no services conducted at this time.
