Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern HillsJacob Terrence Byrd was born January 15, 2003 in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was the son of Thomas and Christine (Jacobsen) Byrd. Shortly after his birth, Jacob moved with his family to Belle Fourche, where he grew up and attended school. In 2021, Jake graduated from the Belle Fourche High School.
Jake loved his family, and together they made many memories and fun. Thanksgiving together last November will always be treasured. And Jake enjoyed working with his dad. Helping him at Black Hills Spraying and Upper-Level Fitness created some memories that will never be forgotten. This past January, Jake became employed at IDIC Inc., near Belle Fourche. It didn’t take him long, and Jake became a Lead Man for the company. Jake enjoyed work and he always strived to excel.
Jake had big plans in life. He was going to make a lot of money, retire at a young age, and ride motorcycle. Jake certainly had the intelligence to succeed; in fact he intended to go back to school someday. One of the things he enjoyed doing was teaching himself the Japanese language. He also loved video games, hiking and exploring untraveled paths, jujitsu, and practicing his martial art skills on his sisters and even his dogs. And Jake could talk smack with the best of the best. Jacob was a great friend and brother who always wanted to help people, putting others first in his life. He loved trying his sisters recipes, and coming to visit them in Arizona. Jake was a great son, a great brother, and he was a a wonderful grandson, cousin and friend as well. He was loved so much by his family, and he will be missed forever.
Jake died at the age of 22 on Friday, December 5, 2025. He is survived by his father, Tom (Brooke Lunders) of Belle Fourche; mother, Christine of Scottsdale AZ; sisters, Ashley (Ryan Nelson) of Scottsdale AZ, Amanda of Scottsdale AZ; uncles and aunts, John (Kristen) of Maysville OK, Freddie (Heidi) Jacobsen of Phoenix AZ, Justine Torre of Gilbert AZ; cousins, Jaxon and Abby Byrd, Sarah, Andrew, and Luke Torre; and God Parents, Colleen and Steven Shulz and the girls, Sierra, Addison, and Samantha, all of Scottsdale AZ. He is also survived by other “family”, John and Tonya Kjellsen of Newell, along with their children, Brock and Sydney.
Jake was preceded in death by his grandparents, Terry and Sue Byrd, and Fred and Paula Jacobsen.
