Jacquelyn Ann Absher Dare, 70, of Calvert County, MD, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026, surrounded by her children. Known affectionately as “Bunny”—a nickname given to her by her father—she was born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Maryland.
A 1973 graduate of Crossland High School, Bunny went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland. She married the love of her life, William Clarence Dare, and together they began a family that became Bunny’s greatest joy. Following the unexpected passing of her husband in 1989, Bunny dedicated her life to her children and her faith. She will be forever remembered as a woman of profound kindness and unconditional love. Though she is no longer with us physically, her light remains in the hearts of all who knew her.
Bunny was preceded in death by her husband, William Clarence Dare; her parents, Richard and Virginia Absher; and her sister, Dixie (Lee) Cook.
She is survived by her children: Mark (Ashley) Dare and Stephen (Kristin) Dare of Prince Frederick, MD, and Emily (Brad) Alexander of St. Leonard, MD. She was the proud grandmother of six: Jack, Madison, Khloe, Carson, Brian, and Colton. She also leaves behind her brother, Richard Alfred (Kathy) Absher, Jr., and her sisters, Sherry (Robert) Ginnett, Christine (Marvin) Oursler, Patti (Laddie) Prohaska, Ginny (Robert) Callahan, and Jeanie Jones.
The family will receive friends at Lee Funeral Home Calvert, 8200 Jennifer Lane, Owings, MD 20736 on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 6:00 – 8:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 5203 Saint Barnabas Road, Temple Hills, MD 20748 at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
