Jacquelyn M. Epps was born on May 31,1957 in Newark New Jersey. She was the youngest child born to Dorothy M. and Emanuel L. Epps. She was affectionately called "Jackie" by family and friends. Jackie was currently residing in Belleville, New Jersey when she departed this life on September 5, 2025.
She was educated in the Newark Public School system, graduating from Malcolm X Shabazz High School in 1975.
Jackie worked several jobs before landing a position with the Newark Board of Education in 1977. She continued working in the school system until her departure. She held several positions during her career including Sr. Personnel Clerk Typist, (Human Resource Services), School Clerk (George Washington Carver) Steno-Budget/Accounting Department, Fiscal Operation Specialist
ā Budget Department, Principal Fiscal Analyst, (Department of Teaching and Learning) and Fiscal Analyst, retiring in 2006.
While Jackie was employed at the Newark Board of Education, she made time to continue her education at night graduating from Rutgers University (Newark) in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. Once Jackie retired, her love for the students in the Newark School system led her to return as a Substitute Teacher working in several schools until she became a Permanent Substitute Teacher at Barringer High School.
Jackie was the "LIFE" of the party. If she was at the party, the party was lit. She enjoyed going to Atlantic City, shopping and eating she was a "FOODIE" by nature.
Jackie was preceded by her mother, Dorothy M. Lewis, Stepfather, Edward Lewis, Father, Emanuel L. Epps: two sisters, Dorrinda L. Sims and Marcelyn Dutton; a brother, Lamont K. Epps and nephew, Derrick L. Epps.
She leaves to cherish her memory; sister, Patricia A; two brothers Emanuel "Pepe" D. and Eugene "Gene" Epps; two sisters-in-law Juanita Holt and Vanessa Epps and aunts Rosetta Williams and Claudia Brown. Her nieces and nephews: LaShanda Garris, Daron Sims, Denise, Dawn, Altarik and Kheshon Epps, Darnell Mitchell, Shakia and Sharonda Dutton. Great nieces and nephews; Danielle, D'Kei, Dashanae, Donte and Braylon Epps, Morgan Jacobs, Daneisha Epps-Reeder, Darryl Tate, Brandon Dutton, Isaiah, Nia and Jeremiah Bennett, Kyle Bracewell, Daron Jr., Darrod and Dashawn Sims, Jasir and Johari Mitchell and Jy'Nasti Alexis Dees and a host of Great-Great nieces and nephews. Her longtime friend, Karon Taylor; co-workers and students from Barringer and Technology High Schools and a host of other relatives and friends.
