It is with deep sadness that the family of James H. Alt, 86, of Spring Green, announces his passing on September 10, 2025, at home surrounded by his family. He was born in a log cabin on March 20, 1939, the son of Joseph and Edith (Phetteplace) Alt of Franklin Township.

Jim attended Spring Green High School. After graduation, he proudly served in the U.S. Army. Later he met the love of his life and was married on October 30, 1965 to Rita (Tourdot) Alt. Together they raised their three children in Madison for 35 years enjoying trips to the lake, sporting events and traveling. Jim worked for Oscar Mayers for 38 years before retiring and returned to his home in Franklin Township, which he called "Trickle Creek Sanctuary". Jim cherished spending time with his family. He had a gift for finding humor in nearly every situation, often using it to lift the spirits of those around him. He had a deep love of the outdoors, whether it was watching his birds or hunting but his real passion was fishing which extended beyond the water, as he enjoyed crafting his own rods and lures and sharing his love of the sport with his family. Jim was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, where he held numerous positions. He was recently honored as Sir Knight of the Year, a recognition that reflected his dedication, service, and faith.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Rita; his sister Cheryl Alt of Middleton; his children, James J. (Malinda) Alt of Spring Green, Jeffrey (Sarah) Alt of Montello, Cindy (Christopher) Pekol of Evansville. Grandchildren, James R. (Marihia) Alt, Kade Alt, Joshua Alt, Kevin Conley, Austin (Samantha) Alt, Monica (Michael) Flores, Sebastian (Alison) Pekol, and Ethan Alt. Great Grandchildren, Logan, Jaxson, Carter, Kylie, Maelinn, and Oaklynn. Jim was proceeded in death by his parents, Joseph and Edith and his brothers Merle, Reginald, and Kenneth. Jim's legacy is one of love, laughter, faith, and family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
