James (Jim) Anthony, age 96, passed away peacefully at Troy Corewell Hospital on August 5, 2025.
He was born on June 2, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan, to James Anthony and Anna (Kastrans) Anthony. Jim began a 38-year career at Michigan Bell in 1951 and served his country in the United States Army from May 24, 1951, to October 15, 1956. He transferred to the Army Reserve on May 3, 1953. In 1959, thanks to an introduction from a close cousin, he met the love of his life, the late Virginia (Pellegren) Anthony. They married on May 7, 1960, and shared 61 wonderful years together, building a legacy of family, laughter, and togetherness.
Together, they raised three children: Matthew (Carol) Anthony of Troy, Mary Monolo (the late Alexander) of South Carolina, and Patricia (Edward) Koenig of Imlay City. His family continued to grow with six grandchildren Christina (Patrick) Gramith, Philip (Rachael) Monolo, Sarah Anthony, Rachel Anthony, Charles Koenig, and Grace Koenig and five great-grandchildren: Thomas, Vienna, Antonio, Joseph, and Theodore. Each one brought him immense pride and happiness.
Jim loved vacationing with his wife and family and cherished the many memories they created together. A lifelong sports fan, he enjoyed watching the Red Wings, Tigers, and Lions. He played hockey growing up and continued playing baseball, softball, golf, and volleyball well into his 70s. Jim took great joy in supporting his grandchildren, attending many of their softball, baseball, football, and volleyball games.
Jim spent the last four years of his life at Oakleigh of Macomb, where he was blessed to be surrounded by wonderful friends and caregivers. His easygoing personality and contagious smile made him beloved by all. He especially enjoyed playing Euchre with his buddies, bingo, and "Wine Down Wednesdays."
He is survived by his younger sisters, Rose Marie Anthony and Joyce Karsnick.
Funeral Tuesday Instate 9:00am at St. Kieran Church 53600 Mound Rd (btw. 24 & 25 Mile Rds.) until time of Mass at 10:00am.
