James Ashbaugh, 68, of Park, Kansas, passed away on July 9, 2023. James was born in Quinter, KS, on December 24, 1954. He graduated from Wheatland High School and continued on to receive a Bachelor's Degree from Kansas State University.
Jim worked for Jack's Repair Shop after retiring. He enjoyed his numerous house plants, aviation, being an avid UFO follower, riding his Harley with friends, and spending time with his family. Jim enjoyed going to gun and coin shows with friends. He was known for his big heart and didn't know a stranger. Jim took pride in his family. Jim was planning a trip to Sturgis as a bucket list item this summer with his best friend Joe Waldman, who was like a brother. Jim enjoyed taking family and friends up for quick flights around just for fun and to check crops.
James is survived by John Ashbaugh (Hoxie), Alex Ashbaugh (Hays), Kathy and husband Ramon Cunningham (Schuyler, NE), Joe Ashbaugh (Park), Ron and wife Judy Ashbaugh (Melrose, NM), Diane Ashbaugh (Oakley), Michael Ashbaugh (Quinter), Manuel Ashbaugh (Jacksonville, FL), and Elizabeth and husband Edmund McDonald (Park). along with many nieces and nephews, other family members, and friends.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Emald and Teresa Ashbaugh, and sisters Veronica Brown, Darlene Ashbaugh, Patricia Meyers, and Dorothy Schwindt, along with other family members.
A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. on July 14, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Park, KS. Father James will be officiating. Inurnment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Visitation will be July 13th, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with vigil to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Schmitt Funeral Home in Quinter, KS.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the K-State Aviation Program in Salina, KS, and for memorial masses at Sacred Heart Church in Park, KS. Donations may be sent to Schmitt Funeral Home, 901 South Main, Quinter, KS, 67752.
