James Louis Augustyn
James Louis Augustyn, age 78 died on October 2nd 2024. Born in Trenton, he lived in Trenton for 55 years before moving to
Hamilton, New Jersey in 2000.
Son of the late Stanley and Jennie Chianese Augustyn he is survived by his wife, Maria Petromany Augustyn; two sons and daughters-in-law; Keith and Shirley Augustyn of Old Tappan, NJ ; Mark and Amber Augustyn of
Hamilton, NJ; a sister-in-law Carol Augustyn of
Hamilton, NJ; a brother-in-law Ted Hamilton of
Hamilton, NJ; four grandchildren; Micayla Rose, Nicholas James, Logan Elizabeth and Victoria Lara; two nephews; Christopher Augustyn and Michael Hamilton both of
Hamilton, NJ; a niece Nikki Hamilton of
Hamilton, NJ.
James attended Trenton Catholic High School for 3 years and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1963 as the first co-ed class of Cathedral High, he also attended Rider College for two years majoring in Accounting. He worked for the City of Trenton, part time, while attending college at the Trenton Marine Terminal as an administrative clerk. After college he worked full time at J. B. Van Schiver furniture store in Trenton as the manager of the Carpet Department. In January 1968 he started work with the Trenton Fire Department. He retired, with the rank of Captain, in January 2006 after 38 years of service and 25 years as a Captain. He was a member of the FMBA and later Trenton Fire Officers Association and was responsible for writing a spreadsheet program that produced contract percentages for the negotiating committee during arbitration, and Business Administrator meetings over a 17 year period. James also, with the help of one member from the Clerk's office and one from the Payroll office, worked for 10 to 12 years in the Administration area of the Fire Department and assisted, with a computer analyst, putting the Trenton Fire Department on its first administrative computer network. He then was responsible for writing 138 programs in Dbase4 that greatly increased the speed in which the Fire Department was able to present statistics and gather information in Administration and Payroll. James was a member of the Selected Army Reserve Force from 1965 to 1971, during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and was the Treasurer of the PTA and Carnival committee for several years and later joined St. Raphael's Church after moving to
Hamilton, NJ. He enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Civil Service League, Holy Name League, and Hamilton Classic. He also enjoyed golfing and played most of his golf on the Mercer County Courses. In his retirement years he enjoyed many vacations with his wife Maria.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Sunday, October 6, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Hamilton Brenna-Cellini Funeral Home, 2365 Whitehorse-Mercerville Rd.,
Hamilton, NJ 08619. An additional hour of calling will be held Monday, October 7, 2024 at St. Raphael's Church, 3500 So. Broad St.,
Hamilton, NJ from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM at the church. Cremation will follow and will be held privately.
