James Alfons Austin, 66, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit. Jim's family and friends will gather Wednesday, July 24, 2024 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Eineder Funeral Homes – Brooklyn Chapel. The Fraternal Order of Eagles #3634 will hold the Lodge of Sorrow Ceremony, during the visitation on Wednesday at 7:00 pm. His funeral service will be Thursday, July 25, 2024 at 11:00 am following visitation from 10:00 am -11:00 am at Eineder Funeral Homes - Brooklyn Chapel. His burial will be at St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Jackson following the service. Pastor Robert Martin will serve as celebrant.
He was born on November 26, 1957, in Jackson, Michigan to James and Helga (Schmitt) Austin. Jim married the love of his life, the late Yvonne Wysocki, on April 18, 1981, in Michigan Center. He will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman, hunting being his love. Jim graduated from Michigan Center High School and earned his Associates Degree at Lake Superior State University. After 30 plus years of service as a surveyor, Jim retired from Atwell, LLC, where he was affectionately called "Grumpy". He was a long time member and past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Michigan Center Posts #3634. Jim always enjoyed doing community service and was very proud of being the "Admiral of the Chicken Barge". He was also an assistant scout master for the Michigan Center Boy Scouts, Troop #313. Above all, Jim enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren. Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jim is survived by his children, Phillip Austin and Nina (Nate) Keiser; his parents, James and Helga Austin; a sister, Heidi (Carl) Brittain; grandchildren Laila, LeeAnn, and Abel Austin, Marcelyn, Landon and Gunner Keiser; and his companion for the last 13 years, Diane. He is preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne and a sister, Dixie Purdie.
