James Bates Obituary
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Georgia Bates, his 1st wife Sarah and his 2nd wife Violet, 4 brothers Charles Jr., Joseph Lloyd, Freddie, and Eddie Bates all of the Chattanooga area.
He is survived by his daughters, Lottie (Sean) East of East Ridge, Tn, Sherry Newbille of South Carolina, Melissa (Travis) Slater of Evensville, Tn; sons, Bobby, Kenneth, Kevin (Debbie) and David all of the Chattanooga area. Siblings include sisters, Betty Stapp of Ringgold, Ga, and Faye (Larry) McFarland of Benton, Tn, brothers, Edward Wayne (Glenda) Bates of Ooltewah, Tn, and Gene (Susan) Bates of East Ridge, Tn, also many nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A special thank you to his daily caregivers Lottie (Sean) East and their daughter Audrey for the many years of ministering to James, in getting him to and from countless doctor's appointments, and hospital visits.
The family will receive friends from 11:00a.m. – 1:30p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, South Crest Chapel, 833 Chickamauga Ave., Rossville, Georgia.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Lakewood Memory Gardens East.
