James Ollioney Batte, Jr., 77, of Huntsville, AL, passed away on May 3, 2025.
Jim was born in Hattiesburg, MS, to James and Lamurl Batte. He moved with his family to Biloxi, MS, when his father took a job at Keesler Air Force Base and then to Huntsville, AL, when his dad went to work at Redstone Arsenal.
Jim graduated from Huntsville High School with the Class of 1966 and went on to graduate from the University of Mississippi and from Alabama A&M University. He was a teacher in the Huntsville City School System for 30 years and retired from Butler High School.
He enjoyed sports and the outdoors. He was an Eagle Scout. He played football at Huntsville High School and was a member of the 1966-1967 Ole Miss freshman football team. He was an avid duck hunter. He was most passionate about raising and training Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, winning many awards over the years for his championship dogs and lending his expertise as a field trial judge on numerous occasions around the country.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lamurl Batte, his wife of 43 years, Sharon Fullerton Batte, and a brother, Wayne Edward Batte.
Jim is survived by his brother, John Batte (Carol); his brother-in-law, Gary Fullerton (Cindy); nieces, Jennifer Batte and Samantha Fullerton; nephews, John Batte Jr., and Jacob Batte; great-nieces, Aerabella Batte, Penelope Batte, and Evelyn Brumit; and many lifelong friends.
