James Albert Bell was born on February 20, 1944, to the late Pauline Annie Mae Burton and James "Ike" Bell. He departed this life on June 25, 2025, with his wife of 23 years, Mary Bell, by his side.
While in elementary school, his teacher discovered that James had a talent for singing. As a young adult, he and his first group traveled the world with a professional group called "The Soul Children." They sang songs like "The Sweeter He Is" and "Don't Take My Sunshine." After that group ended, he founded a new group called "The Ambassadors," where he served as the lead singer, alongside his co-partner, "Snow."
James attended Moton High School in Easton, Maryland. He had a love for baseball and basketball. He was also a graduate of James Groves High School at Delaware Tech.
James retired from Kent General Hospital (now Bayhealth Medical Center) as a Supply Coordinator, after 33 years of service. After his retirement, he was employed at Caesar Rodney High School and retired after 18 years due to illness.
James was preceded in death by his five siblings, Sewell Johnson, Mary Nichols, Gloria Caldwell, Isaac Bell, Jr., and Edward Bell.
He is survived by his children, Kevin Bell, Keith Bell, and Tarraye Bell, all of Easton, MD, Terrance Bell (Bonita) of Cambridge, MD, Dionne Bell of St. Michael's MD and Keisha Brown-Bell of Dover, DE; two stepsons, Neal Simpson (Shauntay) of Smyrna, DE and Michael Simpson of Dover, DE; 11 grandchildren, Dr. Tashieka "Tia" Bell, Tyvanne Bell, Kordey Jenkins, Taryn Bell, Latonya "Jady" Bell, Tristen Bell, Tynisha Bell, Allegra Bullock and Zane Bell; six great-grandchildren, Zy'Ae Bell, Juknee Jones, Javion Jones, TyVanne Bell, Jr., Alomiya Bell and Hendricks Bullock; two grandchildren who were more like his own children, Johari Brow-Bell and Silas Simpson; and a host of nephews and nieces, and friends.
