James Wilson Berger, age 81, of Erie, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2024. He was born in Salem, OH on November 17, 1942, to the late Claude and Edith Starbuck Berger. James was a graduate of West Branch High School and Riggs Lamar School of Barbering in Akron, OH. 

He worked in sales for George Howe Co, in Grove City for 33 years until his retirement in 2005. He was a member and past Master of Perry Keystone Lodge #392 F & AM, Fort Erie Muzzleloaders and Tuesday Retiree Golf League. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council, Sunday School, worship & music ministries and coached youth church league basketball. Jim was also a MYAA baseball coach and enjoyed woodworking.

In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by 3 brothers-in-law.

James is survived by his wife Louise and his children: Mindy Steer (Bob) of Damascus OH, Todd Berger (Rhonda) of Oneida NY, Tim Berger (Monnie) of Harrodsburg KY, Paul Berger of Erie and Joe Berger (Arica) of Centerville, PA. He’s further survived by his siblings: Carol Iler of Sebring, OH, Sally Harder (Jim) of Mount Vernon, OH, Marty Dye of Massillon, OH, John Berger (Suzie) of Madeira, OH and Dan Berger (Bev) of Salem, OH, along with 14 grandchildren and many in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Friends may call at Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, West Ridge 3801 West 26th St., Monday August26, 2024 from 3 to 7 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service there at 11 a.m. The Rev. Erik Young of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will officiate. A Masonic Service conducted by Perry Keystone Lodge No. 392 F & AM will be held Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Burial in Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 3108 Sterrettania Rd, Erie, PA 16506 or Shriners Hospital 1645 W. 8th St, Erie, PA 16505.
