James Bishop Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hidden Valley Funeral Home of Kearney on Dec. 9, 2025.
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James ("Jim") Edward Bishop, who went home to the Lord on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at 3:02 a.m. at North Kansas City Hospital following a heart attack.
Born on April 8, 1951, at Research Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, Jim spent his early years in Kansas City, Richmond, and Excelsior Springs. He graduated from Excelsior Springs High School and later from State Technical College of Missouri (formerly Linn Tech).
Jim was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. He spent the majority of his career in manufacturing, mastering the trade of machinist and later serving in maintenance operations. Through his craftsmanship and commitment, he helped support industries that benefited countless people. Even after retiring, Jim continued to serve his community by participating in organizations throughout the Kansas City metro area.
As a husband, father, and grandfather, Jim was loving, attentive, and steadfast. He possessed a servant's heart-always ready to help, always willing to sacrifice for those he cherished. His sincerity, devotion, and joyful spirit left a lasting impression on those who "crossed his path".
Jim loved nature deeply and found endless wonder in God's creation-clouds drifting across the sky, birds in flight, glowing sunrises and sunsets, and the majesty of the mountains. He delighted in capturing these moments through photographs, sharing what he fondly called God's "artwork."
A man of wide-ranging interests, Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, cycling, whitewater rafting, zip lining, and even skydiving. He held a special affection for the Rocky Mountains and visited Colorado many times. He also loved music-especially old rock and roll-and was always eager for concerts, plays, musicals, and community events. His energy and enthusiasm made life richer for those around him.
Most importantly, Jim trusted in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, clinging to the promise that all who call upon the name of the Lord Jesus are saved from their sins. He endeavored to love others because God first loved him, and this faith shaped every part of his life.
We thank God for Jim's life, his impact, and the legacy of love and service he leaves behind. He will be dearly missed.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, George Bishop; his mother, Helen Vermillion Bishop; his stepmother, Betty Fox; his brother, Bob Bishop; his half-brothers, Everett and Tony; and his half-sister, Mindy.
He is survived by his loving wife, Millie Allemang-Bishop; his son, Matt Bishop, and daughter-in-law ("daughter-in-love" as Jim would say), Megan Bishop; and his grandchildren, Lorelai, Theodore, and Anastasia. He is also survived by his brother, George Bishop, and sister-in-law, Jane Bishop; as well as his stepchildren, Jason Allemang (Karen), Jamie Davies (Jeff), and Kristi Jaros (Nick); and step-grandchildren Maddie, Rennik, Corbin, and Emily. He leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever treasure his memory.
"Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.'" - John 11:25 (ESV)
