James Irvin Blanks, Jr. 85, of Clear Spring, MD, passed away, Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at the Meritus Medical Center.
Born Saturday, May 20, 1939, in Gretna, VA, he was the son of the late James Irvin Blanks and the late Helen L. (Reynolds) Blanks.
Jim graduated from Luray High School in 1956 and later graduated from the University of Virginia under the ROTC program. After obtaining his CPA and working for a short period of time in Baltimore, MD, he was called to active duty with the U.S. Army in Germany during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Upon his discharge he resided in Vienna Virginia where he became a partner in a national CPA firm, and later in 1983 he relocated to Hagerstown and purchased and ran Antietam Truck Body & Equipment. He was a member of the Downtown Rotary for many years and was a member of the Washington County Social Services Board and also served on the Board of Managers for the University of Virginia.
Jim loved to hunt and shoot sporting clays, he was active in several rod & gun clubs.
He is survived by his wife Sandra Tillou, son, James E. Blanks and wife Anke, step daughter, Teresa Crum, grandson, David Blanks, step grandson, Spencer Crum and special friend Joshua Kamara.
Family will receive friends at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Services and interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Girl's Inc.626 Washington Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21740
