James William Bright, 82, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2024, after a brief illness. A lifelong resident of the Creeds area of Virginia Beach, he was the only child of Marguerite Bright (Corprew) and Mark Bright both of whom predeceased him. Left to cherish his memory from that family are nieces Debbie Boomer (George) and hers sons George and Heath and their families and Teresa LePere and her sons Eric and Bryon and their families. He is also survived by many cousins.
Educated in public schools of Princess Anne County, Jim was a lifelong farmer, first and foremost. He worked for the Virginia Department of Forestry for 35 years, retiring in 2003. He then pursued actively his love for the soil as a produce and Christmas tree farmer and an active community member. He was a former member of the Creeds Ruritan Club, a lifetime member of the Creeds Volunteer Fire Department and a deacon emeritus at Oak Grove Baptist Church where he served in many different capacities.

So sorry to hear about the passing of Jim. His legacy in Creeds will live on like so many that have gone before him. Lionel's girls will always remember the laughter that would always echo from the walls of the club when the gang would come together and play cards or start slapping Domino's on the table.

So sorry to hear about Jim passing. He was a wonderful person and made life fun. I enjoyed him at the DOF Christmas parties back in the day.

Having a conversation with Jim was like listening to the best country song ever. The tone and cadence of his voice was musical, and the common-sense wisdom of his words was a welcome relief from the chaos of the world. Simply put, we need more Jim Brights on this earth.

My very first memory of Jim was when I called the house to let Anne know that the delivery truck had arrived. At that time I still called her Mrs. Bright as she was a teacher and with respect. After talking with Jim, quite intensely and not knowing what to expect, after about 5 minutes on the phone with him. He said well if you really would like to tell Anne all of this, she's standing right here!! That is when I realized I needed to be short and sweet. In talking with him. He always brought a giggle and a smile to my face. We'll miss him. Intensely.
