James Ray Bryson, 91, passed away on February 10, 2026, in Inman, South Carolina, with his family by his side. He was born on April 3, 1934, in Highlands, North Carolina, he was the son of the late John Ray and Alice Amelia Wright Bryson.

His impressive career spanned decades as a long-haul truck driver, retiring from Ryder Transportation and Ford Motor Company. Additionally, he was a part-time employee at Benson Dodge Chrysler Jeep. A proud member of the United Auto Workers Association for 12 years and a Teamster for over 20 years, he built strong connections with those he worked alongside, earning their respect and admiration.

James served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean War, an experience that he carried with pride throughout his life. He was known not just for his dedication to work and service, but also for his vibrant personality. A big jokester and prankster, James delighted in creating fun nicknames for his children and grandchildren, always bringing smiles and warmth to those around him.

James enjoyed working on cars, with an extensive knowledge of vehicles that allowed him to help friends and family maintain theirs. He was a frequent visitor at "Golden Corral Restaurant," where he never hesitated to enjoy a meal. In addition, James always bought his lottery scratch-offs and enjoyed going to casinos for a little gambling, where he always seemed to win.

Among his proudest accomplishments was the commitment he shared with his wife, Patsy "Pat" D. Bryson, as they served as foster parents for 10 years, positively impacting the lives of many children during that time.

James leaves behind his devoted wife of 43 years, Patsy "Pat" D. Bryson of Inman, SC; his sons, Brian Scott Bryson (Tricia) of Inman, SC; James R. Bryson (Tammy) of Silverwood, MI; Jerry Richardson Bryson (Amy) of Waterford, MI; Jeffrey Richard Bryson (Teresa) of Waterford, MI; his daughter, Jennifer D. Ridlehoover (Joey) of Gulf Port, MS; 17 cherished grandchildren; a bundle of great-grandchildren; his sister, Alice Louise Davis of Franklin, NC; and his brother, Leslie Bryson of Franklin, NC.

Preceding him in death are his parents and his brother, Charles Bryson.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, February 13, 2026, Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307.  The funeral service will be held 1:00 PM, Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, followed by a cryptside service in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
