James Mathew Mata Chavera, born on December 28, 2007, in Pearsall, Texas, passed away tragically on January 17, 2026, in his hometown. He is the beloved son of Danielle L. Mata (Romaldo Martinez) and Bobby Chavera (Annaliza Amaya).
He was a recent graduate of Pearsall High School, where he completed his education early in September 2025. James was known for his hardworking nature and kindhearted spirit, endearing himself to those around him. James dedicated much of his time to his job, having previously worked at Golden Chick in Pearsall and was currently employed at McDonald's. He was a passionate individual who not only embraced his responsibilities but also cherished every moment spent with family and friends.
His hobbies included fishing with his grandfather, spending time with his brothers and friends, and making anything possible for the people around.
James was a loving big brother to his four brothers: Jason Michael Mata Chavera, Jaxon Chavera, Abel Braxon Chavera, and Aidan Brian Chavera.
He is also survived by his grandparents Mario and Diana Mata and Morris and Cynthia V. Gonzales, along with step-grandparents Norma Martinez and Cruz Amaya.
He leaves behind a cherished network of aunts and uncles, including John Chavera (Ashley Chavera), Laura Gonzales, Dalia Banda (Lionel Banda), Dora Mata Rodriguez (Lalo Rodriguez), Dorcey Perez (Roel Rodriguez), Mario Mata Jr. (Stephanie Mata), and Debra Mata.
James’ legacy will be remembered fondly by all who knew him, particularly for his willingness to lend a helping hand whenever needed. He touched many lives and will be profoundly missed.
A visitation will be held on January 26, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Trevino Royal Oaks Funeral Chapel and Crematory in Pearsall, with a Rosary at 7:00 PM. A Mass in his honor and final blessing will be celebrated on January 27, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Frio County Cemetery at 11:00 AM.
James is preceded in death by his sister, Janel Nicole Mata Chavera, and his cousin, December Danielle Mata-Rodriguez. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved and knew him.
