Honoring The Journey of James R. Cherry
James R. Cherry Sr., "Bobby", age 79, passed away on October 3, 2025, at The Blossoms of Fort Smith.
He was born on January 13, 1946, in Leeds, England, to MSGT Emerson E. Cherry of the United States Air Force and Gladys (Wood) Cherry. Because of his father's military service, Bobby spent his childhood living in many places around the world, but he grew up in Westhampton Beach on Long Island, New York. In 1979, he moved with his family to Mansfield, Arkansas, where he made his home until he was no longer able.
Bobby is survived by his loving wife, Karen A. Cherry (Thompson) of Fort Smith; two children, James R. "Bobby Jr." Cherry Jr. of Mattituck, New York, and Johnathon E. Cherry-Magnussen, and his husband George of Palm Bay, Florida; and one granddaughter, Tiffani McCrea of Dingmans Ferry, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by his sister Gladys Marie Goree of Dumas, Texas; brother Richard V. Cherry, his wife Jamie, and their son Emerson, all of Overton, Texas; and his brother-in-law Kevin Thompson of Cutchogue, New York.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Howard E. "Butch" Cherry, and his nephew David H. Cherry.
In accordance with his wishes, no services will be held at this time. Cremation is under the thoughtful care of River Glenn Cremation and Funeral Services.
