James L. “Bud” Coley, 82, of Fayetteville, NC, passed away Friday, October 24, 2025, at his home.
Born on October 6, 1943, in Lumberton, NC, James was the son of the late Sam and Viola Coley and foster parents, Luther and Eunice Hyatt. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Mabel Richardson and brothers, David and Belvin Coley, along with his foster sisters and brothers and nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his daughter, Angela C. Allison and her husband Jacob and two grandchildren, Aaron L. Allison and Olivia F. Allison.
James attended Massey Hill School and by the age of sixteen began working laying carpet for Vincent Shields. At nineteen, he enlisted in the Army National Guard where he served six years, all the while advancing his knowledge of floorwork. His knowledge would turn into a full career, dedicating 46 years to installing carpet and flooring before eventually retiring from Cumberland Carpets.
Through life, James would wed and become proud of his many accomplishments, none more so than being blessed with his daughter, Angela.
Being strong in his faith, James’ love for the Lord was always evident through his regular attendance to church, his long to fellowship, and reading his Bible. Over the years, his faith led him to join Breezewood Church of God where he was a youth teacher and camp coordinator. He also helped with the bus routes and helped to improve the sanctuary and classrooms with carpet many times. He later moved on to attend White Oak Worship Center and Hillside Baptist Church to further strengthen his faith.
James was a loving and kind Daddy to Angela and Papa to Aaron Luke and Olivia. He will be remembered by everyone as a kind, helpful, and generous man, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
