James H. "Jay Bird" Coltrain passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, 1PM, in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel in Vanceboro. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Martin Memorial Gardens, Williamston, North Carolina.
Mr. Coltrain lived the majority of his adult life in Williamston and had been a resident of New Bern since 1971. He served in the National Guard, and he had been employed with Weyerhaeuser as a mechanic with 37 years of service, and had attended West Vanceboro Church of God.
Mr. Coltrain is preceded in death by his parents, Joshua Herbert and Nellie Coltrain; a brother, Glen Franklin Coltrain; and two daughters-in-law, Teresa Coltrain and Sarah Coltrain.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lorraine Coltrain; two sons, Bobby Coltrain and James Coltrain; three grandchildren, Lorra Beth Coltrain of Greenville, Kimberly Lynn Coltrain of Vanceboro, and Jackson Hayes Coltrain of Greenville; three sisters, Minnie Hoggard of Windsor, Linda Thomas of Greenville, and Nita McNeese of Greenville; three brothers, Roger Coltrain and wife, Betty Jean of Everetts, North Carolina, Wayne Coltrain and wife, Yvonne of Everetts, and Larry Coltrain and wife, Avis of Bear Grass, North Carolina; and a number of loving nieces and nephews.
