James Alan Dalton

James Alan Dalton, 49, of Fredericksburg, VA, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 13, 2026, in Outer Banks, North Carolina doing the thing he absolutely loved, fishing. To say he was an avid fisherman, is a gross understanding of his love of and skill in the sport.

James was a class A Residential Contractor and the owner of On Time Construction. He possessed a wealth of construction knowledge. He was multitalented, and others frequently sought out his advice and expertise.

He was a lifelong fan of the New York Giants football team and Notre Dane College football. He was a very skilled card and chess player. He was a wonderful husband and terrific friend to many, always willing to lend a hand, an ear, or shoulder.

James is survived by his wife Melinda. He is also survived by his daughter, Marissa (Matt), granddaughter Desirae, and his son Shane, and his family. James also leaves behind his mother, Deborah, Aunt Leanne (Cousin Jeffrey), family, and additional extended family.

He is preceded in death by his father, Alfred E. Dalton (2003), and his son whom he spoke up frequently, and missed profusely, Derek M. Howe (2020).

James served briefly in both the Army and Navy, scoring excellent marksmanship.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 2:00 pm, at Revatone Farm, 10828 Catharpin Road, Spotsylavia Courthouse, VA 22553. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance, reflection, and gratitude for a life well lived.
