James Deadwyler Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home and Cremation Chapel - Covington on Oct. 10, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Mr. James C. "Jim" Deadwyler, Jr., age 89, of Covington, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025.
Jim spent his early years in Six Mile, South Carolina. Jim attended Clemson University and still has three Tiger caps he wore proudly. Throughout his life, Jim was a pillar of strength and support for his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, James C., Sr. and Ila Farmer Deadwyler; his cherished sons, James C. "Jammy" Deadwyler and Scott Deadwyler; and his brothers, Ansel Deadwyler and Harris "Hammer" Deadwyler.
Jim's legacy lives on through those who survive him: his devoted wife of nearly 70 years, Doris Deadwyler; his loving daughters, Holly Padgett (Travis), Lia Garrett (Bill), and Leslie Smith (Eric); and his dear daughters-in-law, Teri Deadwyler and Cindy Deadwyler. He was the proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren and great-grandfather of 11 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense pride and happiness. Jim is also survived by his sister, Mary Moore (The Honorable Jim Moore), as well as a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and other relatives, all of whom he cherished deeply. His many close friends will remember him for his warmth, kindness, and steadfast presence.
Jim was a devoted member of The First Baptist Church of Covington where he served as a Deacon, and Chairman of the Deacon's for 10 years. He was a valuable member of many church committees, where his knowledge, experience, and dedication shown through every decision made for the betterment of his church and community.
Jim's life was an example of commitment and compassion. Whether sharing stories at family gatherings or lending a helping hand to those in need, he touched countless lives with his selflessness and generosity. His unwavering faith brought comfort and joy to everyone around him.
Jim's dedication to his career was just as meaningful to his life. He was selected by his employer to purchase a textile plant in England. Jim and Doris moved with their five children there where he managed the plant for three years. During his career he worked as Industrial Engineer for Milliken, Bibb, and Wellington.
A Celebration of Mr. James C. "Jim" Deadwyler's Life will be held at 2 o'clock Monday, October 13, 2025, at the First Baptist Church of Covington with Dr. Cody McNutt, Reverend Len Strozier, and Reverend Alan Parker officiating. The family will gather with friends from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Building Fund of the First Baptist Church of Covington 1139 Usher Street NW, Covington, GA 30014.
