James Derek DiGiovanni

Yanceyville, NC: James Derek DiGiovanni, 47, of Yanceyville, NC, passed away on June 5, 2024. Born on November 21, 1976, in Danville, VA, Derek was a beloved son, brother, and friend, whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Derek was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Ingram of Danville, VA; maternal grandmother, Frances Ingram of Danville, VA; paternal grandfather, Mario DiGiovanni of St. Petersburg, FL; paternal grandmother, Barry DiGiovanni of Greenbrier, TN; brother, William Hunter Kelton; cousins, Justin Riggins and Joshua Lee Riggins; and second cousin, Sarah Linn Ingram. He is survived by his father, Mario DiGiovanni; mother, Shelia Ingram; uncle, Danny Ray Ingram (Brenda); aunt, Bonnie Kay Ingram; uncle, Nick DiGiovanni; cousin, Jason B. Ingram; cousin, Jessica Weaver (Justin); and numerous second cousins, third cousins, as well as countless friends who loved him deeply.
Derek grew up in Danville, VA, and developed a profound love for music, an interest deeply rooted in his family heritage. He was a talented and accomplished drummer, known for his passion and skill. Beyond music, Derek was a spiritual individual who found solace and expression in writing daily journals, chronicling his journey and innermost thoughts.
A kind and gentle soul, Derek touched the lives of everyone he met with his warmth and generosity. Although he did not have children of his own, he cherished the children in his family as if they were his own, embodying a spirit of unconditional love and care.
At this time, no service or celebration of life has been planned. The family will provide updates when arrangements are made. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Derek's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, reflecting his love and concern for the well-being of children. Derek's memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, a testament to the beautiful life he lived and the indelible impact he had on those around him.
