James “Jim” Dolby, a devoted husband, loving father, and respected clinical psychologist, passed away on August 23, 2025, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Born on May 18, 1934, in Elgin, Illinois, Jim's remarkable journey through life was characterized by his unwavering faith, profound generosity, and dedication to his family.

Jim was a luminary in the field of psychology. With a Bachelor’s degree, a Master’s, and a PhD in Philosophy from Baylor University, he made significant contributions as an administrator, educator, and counselor. His knowledge and compassion were evident in his work, where he impacted the lives of many with his insightful teachings. Jim was also a published author, having written “Dare to be You”, and "A Testament of Hope: A Survivor's Guide to Cultural Evangelicalism,” sharing his wisdom and experiences with a broader audience.

In his personal life, Jim shared many memories with his wife, Barbara Dolby, whom he married in 1983. Together, they created cherished memories traveling often to Europe, pursuing his dream to witness “the best in the world.” He also enjoyed family vacations to the North Woods of Wisconsin and Colorado, adventures that brought joy to Jim's heart and left lasting memories for his children.

Jim's legacy lives on through his children from his previous marriage to Janice Hall: Julie Casner, Janelle Caudill (Boone), Jennifer McGraw (Pat), and JoEllen Zegers. In addition to his children, he welcomed into his heart Barbara's children, Randy Gorby and Cindy Suggs (Mark). Through these connections, Jim experienced the profound joy of being a grandfather and great-grandfather, relishing every moment shared with his family.

Known for his intelligence and caring nature, Jim was a great listener, always soft-spoken and intuitive. His strong Christian faith guided his life, leading him to be an active member of his church and participate in leading Bible studies, a pursuit he held dear. He had a passion for reading, with favorites such as C.S. Lewis and Oswald Chambers filling his shelves, along with many spiritual books and mysteries that captivated his mind.

Jim’s life came to a peaceful close, surrounded by his loved ones—those who felt blessed to have him in their lives. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will resonate in the hearts of all who knew him.

A funeral service to honor his life will be held on September 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Cheyenne, WY. As we celebrate the legacy of Jim Dolby, we remember a man dedicated to love, faith, and family—a guiding light to those who continue to cherish his memory.
