James Alois Donelan, 82, of Dayton, passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at his residence.
While in high school, Jim started his coaching career at St. Joseph Cold Spring and continued his dedication to the youth and basketball program there. Jim started the annual Blue Jay Classic, which will be celebrating its 65th year in 2025. After completing over 30 years of coaching at St. Joe's, Jim continued to coach his grandkids
teams at St. Mary's and Dayton KY Schools. Jim was inducted into the NKY Hall of Fame in March 2007 and won over 600 games. A lot of lifetime friendships were made, but ultimately in his life, family was always first. He retired from Nielson Printing as a Supervisor.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Richard & Lois (nee. Walz) Donelan his wife, Carol Jean (nee. Holtz) Donelan and son James Scott.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Carol Ann (Bill) Walerius; son, Mark (Amy) Donelan; sisters, Lois (the late Paul) Weghorn, Nancy (Allen) Weinel & Kathy Donelan; brother, Rick Donelan; 6 grandchildren, Luke (Sarah), Justin (Kayla), Aubry, Kilee (Dalton), Emma, Austin and 4 great grandchildren, Axton, Tatum, Alexa and Grayson.
Visitation will be held from 8:30-11 a.m., Saturday, December 7th at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Ft. Thomas. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday., December 7th at St Joseph Church, Cold Spring with Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Cold Spring.
