James M. Dori, age 77 of Ocean Pines passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 7, 2026. Born on August 15, 1948, in Pottstown, PA, he was the son of the late Gerald & Helen (Washko) Dori.

A proud veteran, James enlisted in the United States Army and honorably served his country. While assigned to the United States Army Security Agency he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious achievement and a Letter of Commendation. During his time in the Army, James learned to fly and later skydive. Once honorably discharged he returned to Ursinus College in Pennsylvania where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in physics.

His commitment to excellence extended into his professional life, where he applied his keen intellect and expertise in a variety of disciplines. He worked as a contractor for DOD National Defense, programmed software for nuclear reactors and worked on satellites as an aerospace systems engineer. James contributed significantly to the advancement of technology and innovation throughout his career.

His accomplishments also included obtaining his commercial pilot's license, being a flight instructor and designing and building luxury homes. He was an avid surfer, kayaker, sailor and gardener.

James is survived by his devoted spouse, Joan Dori, and his four loving children: Kathleen Dori, Michael Dori (Erin), Matthew Dori, and Martin Dori (Colleen). He also leaves behind treasured memories with his grandchildren, Maggie Dori, Alex Dori, and Courtney Dori.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 11211 Beauchamp Road in Berlin, on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at 11 AM. A viewing will be held at the Bishop-Hastings Funeral Home, 19 S. Main St. in Selbyville, DE on Monday evening from 6PM to 8PM. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Dagsboro, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in James's memory to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.
