James Robert "J.R." Dowell, 45, of Missouri, passed away on August 19, 2025, as the result of an automobile accident. He was born on September 3, 1979, at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri, to John Wayne "Johnny" Dowell, Sr. and Vinnie Irene (Garman) Dowell.

J.R. worked as a laborer in the construction industry, where he was especially skilled in framework and building decks. A sentimental craftsman, he would often leave his children's names hidden in his work - a quiet tribute to the people he loved most.

More than anything, J.R. was proud of his children. He admired the lives they built for themselves and the success they achieved through hard work and determination. He often spoke of how they had become strong and accomplished individuals, even when life - and their father - was not perfect. That pride was his greatest joy.

J.R. loved taking nature walks, going to the river, hunting arrowheads, and caring for his beloved pit bulls. Known to his grandchildren as "Pappy," he cherished every moment with them and never missed a chance to brag about their smiles, milestones, and antics.

He is survived by his seven children: Brenten Dowell and wife Sydney of Centralia; Donovan Dowell and wife Taylor of Joplin; Braiden Dowell and wife Katelynn of Clarence; Alexis Dowell of Columbia; and Payton Dowell, Haley Dowell, and Damon Dowell, all of Boonville. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Lorenzo Dowell, Jordy Dowell, Drake Dowell, and Kadelynn Sweet; siblings Rube Dowell, Linda Fitzwater, John Dowell, Jr., and Ryan Holliger; and several cousins and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Johnny and Vinnie Dowell.

A celebration of J.R.'s life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Wright Funeral Home in Brookfield, Missouri.
