John Phillip Hamilton, 71, of Brookfield, Missouri, passed away on August 18, 2025. Born on October 7, 1953, in Marceline, Missouri, John devoted his life to faith, family, and service to his community.

A graduate of the University of Missouri, Phil earned a master's degree in healthcare administration and dedicated over 40 years to improving rural healthcare. He retired as Chief Executive Officer of Pershing Memorial Hospital, where his leadership and compassion touched countless lives.

Phil was a strong and humble believer in Christ. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ in Marceline and later served faithfully as a deacon at Bethany Baptist Church. He also answered the call to serve abroad, taking part in mission trips to Romania and traveling to England with the Rotary Club to share his knowledge of U.S. healthcare over a six-week tour.

Beyond his professional and spiritual commitments, Phil was deeply involved in his local community. He served on the Marceline School Board, was a member of the Endowment Board for North Central Missouri College in Trenton and took pride in his long-standing involvement with the Rotary Club of Marceline.

Phil loved writing, spending time with his family, and the loyal companionship of his beloved dog, Windsor. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, wisdom, and quiet strength.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Leigh Ann Hamilton (Lichtenberg); his children, Phillip Jordan Hamilton (Barbara), Christian Trent Hamilton (Michael) of Lawrence, Kansas, and John Page Hamilton (Lindsay) of Salina, Kansas; and his cherished grandchildren: Jordan, John Peyton, Tristan, Mia, Reese, and Evelyn Hamilton. He is also survived by his mother, Peggy Joan Helton Hamilton of Marceline; his sister, Lisa McDougan (Mark) of Glasgow, Kentucky; niece Kylee Allen (Jimmy); nephew JonMarc McDougan (Sarah), both of Glasgow, Kentucky; and many extended family members and dear friends.

Phil was preceded in death by his father, John Lee Hamilton, and one grandchild, Jordan Hamilton.

Phil's life was one of quiet purpose, unwavering faith, and deep love for others. He will be dearly missed, but his legacy will continue to live on in the lives of those he served, loved, and inspired.

Memorial contributions to Pershing Memorial Hospital Scholarship Fund or the Animal Shelter of Linn County may be left at or mailed to Wright Funeral Home, P.O. Box 496, Brookfield, MO 64628.
