Jim Eberle passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on June 2, 2025, at the age of 92. He was the beloved son of the late Francis and Bertha (nee Greger) Eberle. Jim grew up in his father’s barbershop on Torresdale Avenue in Philadelphia. He spoke often and fondly of his father and life lessons learned.
A proud North Catholic grad, an All-Catholic and All-State player, he was key leading the Falcons to a state championship and an inducted member of NC Football Hall of Fame. This led to a football scholarship at University of Delaware where he played both sides of the ball as a freshman on the Blue Hens’ starting squad.
Jim left Delaware early to serve in the Army in the Korean War where he was fortunate to be company barber and play football to entertain the troops.
Jim is predeceased by his wife, Nancy (nee Hillerman) who he met through letter correspondence while serving in Korea. They settled in Havertown and were married for sixty-six wonderful years! Jim and Nancy were a dynamic duo! She tended all things within the home while Jim created quite the oasis outside the house. His gardens and landscaping were always immaculate! Jim was a handyman’s handyman and could build or construct just about anything.
Loved by so many as “Mr. James” in Roxborough where he was a hairdresser for over fifty-five years, providing caring service for generations of families. Jim was a Certified Cosmetologist with a teaching license and gave valued instruction and inspiration to young stylists.
Jim was the go-to guy on Oxford Road if ever a tool was needed by a neighbor. Not only did he lend a tool, but he went with the tool to lend a hand!
Jim was surrounded by women his entire adult life! From his work environment to home with his daughters, Kim Wang (Hoau), Karen Pedano, Jamie Eberle and Kristen Anucha (Chi). Jim was once asked if he wished he had boys to which he quickly responded, “no way!”
His love for his girls was ultimately outmatched by the absolute pride and love of his grandchildren Ethan, Emily, Jordan, Brendan, Timothy, Sabrina, Kelechi and Eze, only to be outdone by his newest sweetheart, his great-granddaughter Charlotte!
Jim will be greatly missed by his family who loved him dearly. He was a constant source of countless stories and fun anecdotes. He led the family by example of good, honest hard work. He preached and practiced the Golden Rule of "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
