James Thomas Ellis was born on February 27, 1928.
James "Jim" Thomas Ellis of Fenwick Island, DE passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on June 23, 2024. He is survived by his two children Michael and Cindy, his five grandchildren Peter, Erich, Lauren, James and Hilary, and his two great grandchildren Emma and Evan.
Jim grew up in Wilmington, DE and graduated from Conrad High School in 1945. After high school Jim proudly served in the United States Army. He was a proud veteran of WWII and loved to tell old stories to his grandchildren and their friends.
After his time in the Army, Jim worked as a surveyor and at Baynard Optical making and repairing glasses and eventually retired to Fenwick Island, DE in 1986 and worked at Warrens Station Restaurant for 40+ years. He dearly loved all his friends he was surrounded by working in the restaurant and was affectionately known as Mr. Jim by the staff. He was a hard-working man with a big heart and took many of the younger staff under his wing during his time at the restaurant.
Jim enjoyed spending summers in Fenwick Island, going to holiday parties with friends. He loved watching John Wayne movies, doing word searches, and jigsaw puzzles. Jim also dearly loved all of the family dogs and was often caught sneaking them scraps. He had a huge sweet tooth and was overjoyed that his daughter in law, Robin, always had a piece of pie or some other dessert ready for him.
He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed being part of the Fenwick Island Fishing Club with his son and grandson. When he wasn't working at the restaurant, he enjoyed being on his boat crabbing or fishing. Additionally, he dedicated much of his life to the Freemasons. He was a member of their Armstrong lodge, and had 73 years of service with them.
Jim's funeral service for friends and family will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, July, 24, 2024 at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery located at 2465 Chesapeake City Road Bear, Delaware 19701.
