James Edward "Jim" Elsey, 83, of Oakland, MD, passed away on November 11, 2022.
James was born on December 28, 1938, in Corinth, WV and was the son of the late Earl Elsey and Chris Kisner Elsey.
After attending school, he went on to do many side jobs. In 1954, he met Rosetta Anderson Elsey, and he took her roller skating for their first date. They wed in 1955. After meeting his wife, he became a coal miner and worked for Chapel Coal Company. They moved to Annapolis, where he worked as a plumber and then a carpenter. In 1972, he crafted his own construction business, E&S General Contracting.
Jim was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was very proud of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, and he and Rosetta always tried their best to support them. Jim also enjoyed camping and could often be found riding around Big Bear Lake in his buggy when he wasn't at home.
Anyone who knew Jim knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for.
He survived by his wife of 67 years, Rosetta Anderson Elsey; daughters, Sharon Elsey, Cathy Elsey Friend and husband Willie, and Arial Elsey; grandchildren, Lisa and Mark Dawson, Chrystal Elsey and Mickey, Missy and Chuck Fink, Amanda and Sarah Cain, and James R. Elsey; great grandchildren, Chase Elsey and Megan, Sierra Glotfelty and Troy, Garrett Lloyd, Kyle Glotfelty, Carisma Dawson, Gracie Glotfelty, Katelynn Glotfelty, and Kaiden Dawson; great great grandchildren, Wyett, Aceyn, and Rosalie; and a sister, Jane Shaffer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa M. Elsey; brothers, Stanley Elsey, Kenneth Elsey, Fred Elsey, Robert Elsey and his wife Darleen, Tom Elsey and his wife Martha; and his beloved pup Coco.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, from 11 AM to 1 PM at C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. Second St. Oakland. A funeral service will follow at 1 PM in the funeral home with Pastor Carl Fike officiating.
