James Henry "Jimmy" Evans Jr.

James Henry "Jimmy" Evans, Jr., a man whose laughter and melody infused vitality into the lives of all who knew him, departed from this world on a gentle breeze of cherished memories, leaving behind a legacy of joy and service. Born on September 20, 1949, in Chattahoochee, Florida, Jimmy grew to embody the qualities of humor, faith, and generosity that would become the hallmarks of his presence among us.
A proud graduate of Chattahoochee High School, Jimmy embraced his calling to serve others early on. His post-graduation journey led him to the Law Enforcement Academy, where he committed himself to upholding peace and safety. With a decade dedicated to the Florida Highway Patrol in Miami and Wildwood, and a year as a deputy sheriff, Jimmy safeguarded his community with diligence and pride. In 1982, he joined the Florida State Hospital, retiring twenty years later as a Security Specialist. Jimmy's contributions to the State of Florida spanned over three decades, marked by unwavering dedication to law enforcement.
Jimmy's Christian faith was the cornerstone of his life. He was a devout member of Calvary Baptist Church in his hometown, where his voice-described by many as angelic-would rise in song, offering praise and worship to the Lord he so dearly loved. For nearly two decades, he and his longtime friend Jerry Thompson delighted audiences as part of the musical group Second Chance. Their harmonies resonated across the tristate area, leaving a trail of touched hearts and uplifted spirits. Jimmy's commitment to his faith extended beyond the church walls as he participated in the nursing home ministry team, bringing solace and joy to the elders of his community.
A passionate collector of classic cars, Jimmy's enthusiasm for "Chevy" automobiles was more than a hobby; it was a reflection of his appreciation for the timeless beauty and craftsmanship of a bygone era. His love for automobiles was matched only by his love for people. Jimmy never met a stranger and had an uncanny ability to fill a room with laughter, often sharing a good joke and brightening the day of those around him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Henry Evans, Sr. and Erlene Betts Evans, and his sister, Shirley Evans. His legacy lives on through his beloved son, James Henry Evans III and his wife Josie; his granddaughter, Janie Boring; and his niece, Kena Hartzog, along with countless friends who remember him with profound fondness.
In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, a sentiment that Jimmy exemplified, "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children... to leave the world a bit better... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Jimmy's immeasurable success in life is evident in the lives he touched, the laughter he sparked, and the love he spread.
James Henry "Jimmy" Evans, Jr.'s journey through this world may have reached its sunset, but the echoes of his joyous laughter, his songs of faith, and his generous spirit will continue to inspire those who were privileged to know him. May we carry forward the light he shone in this world, remembering always the gift of his presence among us.
Services will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, in the sanctuary of Calvary Baptist Church in Chattahoochee, Florida. Visitation for family and friends will begin at 1:00 PM Eastern Time, with funeral services starting at 2:00 PM Eastern Time. Interment will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Chattahoochee, FL. Florida Highway Patrol Honors and Masonic Rites will be presented.
In lieu of flowers, Jimmy's family asks that you consider a donation in his memory, to The Hope Project or Gee Lodge No. 21 F&AM two organizations near and dear to Jimmy's heart.
