James Edwin Fulcher, M.D., 81, of McClellanville, South Carolina, husband of Margaret Bissell "Patty" Fulcher, entered into eternal rest Saturday, December 6, 2025. His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, December 13, 2025 in the St. James Santee Episcopal Chapel of Ease, 205 Oak Street, McClellanville, SC at 10:30 am. Reception to follow at the Morrison House. Private burial. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Jim was born November 21, 1944 in Macon, Georgia, son of the late Morton Moffett Fulcher and Mary Sowell Fulcher. He was a graduate of the College of Charleston and the Medical University of South Carolina. From 1973 to 2014 he was the beloved family doctor for generations of residents of McClellanville and surrounding communities. He had a deeply felt love for his family, friends, communities, woods, and the Cape Romain beaches, creeks and marshes. He had an easy way of sharing himself: his love of beauty- whether the faces of his patients, Italian Renaissance painting or the Lowcountry; his poet's eye and appreciation; his deep and serious reading; his love of sailing; and above all his capacity for love, friendship and caring.
He is survived by his wife Patty, his daughter, Ali Fulcher (Lowry Shuler); his grandson, Nico Fulcher Shuler; and his sister, Jan Fulcher of Columbia, SC. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Claire.
Memorials may be made to St. James Santee Episcopal Church, McClellanville, S.C. 29458 and Lowcountry Lutheran Hospice.
