James Bolt Obituary

Visit the Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes - Downtown Chapel website to view the full obituary.
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Dr. Jim Bolt. Jim was a talented dentist, musician and an all-around amazing human being. He lived a life marked by kindness, generosity, and a profound love for family and friends. Forever an optimist, Jim always looked for the best in others and had a gift for bringing out the very best in those he loved.
A graduate of Furman University, Jim went on to attend the Medical University of South Carolina. Upon graduating he entered the Navy as an officer and dentist, stationed in Key West, Florida. Following his time in the Navy, Jim practiced dentistry for over 30 years. Dr. Bolt was beloved by his patients, and he loved them in return. Following his retirement from private practice, Jim developed a passion for mentoring young dentists. He accepted a part-time position as a clinical professor at Augusta University. From there he went on to work with Dental Advocacy Group (DAG) helping young dentists just getting started. Jim was always happiest when he was helping others.
Jim is survived by his wife of 27 years, Candace, and his four amazing children: sons, Matt Bolt (Brittney) and Sam Bolt; and daughters, Kelleigh Hamrick (Rusty) and Perry Bolt. In addition, he had six wonderful grandchildren, Mary Tyler Bolt, Davis Bolt, Baylor Bolt, Annie Bolt, Huck Hamrick and Hunter Hamrick.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, James Cecil Bolt and Irma Frances Dobbs Bolt.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown. Immediately following the service, the family will be hosting a reception at The Village Grind, located at 1258 Pendleton Street, Greenville, SC 29611.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers you perform a good deed - help a neighbor, volunteer or support someone in need - and think of our sweet Jim while you do it.
