James A. Granzow, age 90, passed away on Tuesday December 9, 2025 at the Hubbard Care Center.
James Arlan Granzow was born on the family farm northwest of Hubbard on May 29, 1935. He was the only child of Arthur and Edna (Gelhaus) Granzow. Jim received his elementary education at Clearview School Tipton #3 northwest of Hubbard. In eighth grade he transferred to the Hubbard Community School, graduating with the Class of 1953.
In July 1955 he was inducted in the U.S. Army and served sixteen months in Korea, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He came home to work on the family farm after being discharged in April 1957.
Jim married his high school sweetheart, Helen Reinert, on September 14, 1957. They were blessed with twin sons, Mark and David, in 1959. He shared the love of farming together with his father and his sons. Jim and Helen lived on the family farm until 1994 when they moved to Hubbard.
During his life, Jim served on many local boards including Hardin County Board of Health, Hardin County Mutual Insurance Co, Hardin County Jail Project, Buckeye Coop Elevator, Hubbard Golf and Recreation Club, Hubbard Community School Board, and Hubbard Community Medical Center Board. Jim enjoyed participating in antique tractor rides around Iowa, camping at the Iowa State Fair, having coffee with friends, and attending as many activities of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as possible.
Through the years Jim and Helen enjoyed traveling to many places, including several trips to Germany, as well as through much of Europe. They spent more than 20 years as snowbirds in Texas, Arizona and California.
