James Calvin Green, Sr. was born November 13, 1928, in Yazoo, Mississippi to his parents Moses and Ivory Bell Green, who preceded him in death.
James had eight siblings, Desserine Standifer (Grandview, MO), Hattie Harris (Deceased), L. G. Green (Deceased), Percy Lee Green (Deceased), Neal Green (Deceased), Hurbert Green (Deceased), Moses Green, II (Deceased) and Corrine Smith (Deceased).
After receiving his honorable discharge from the United States Army, he moved to Kansas City, Missouri and attended Automotive Mechanic School.
James found the love of his life Mary Lee while attending church. December 26, 1958, they were united in holy matrimony. Mary Lee had one son, John Mangum. James had two children from previous marriages, Annette Green Williams (Deceased) and James Green (Deceased).
James accepted Christ at an early age. He was a member of Trinity Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the late Bishop W. B. Henderson. He remained under the leadership of Bishop Benjamin Stevenson until his health failed. He and Mary Lee moved to Mableton, Georgia to be with their son, John Mangum and Marilyn.
James was a pioneer in the Automotive and Salvage Business. He was well-known throughout the community as an established businessman. He worked many years at Danny Dare as head shipping manager.
Elder James C. Green became an ordained minister in the late 50's and presided in several churches in Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri. Just to name a couple of churches, Madden Temple and Trinity Temple Church of God in Christ.
James was quit a fisherman and had several fishing buddies, Mary Lee Green, Jerry Bacon, Rosie Wiley, He was loved by many and will be truly missed.
James leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Mary Lee Green; son, John Mangum (Marilyn) all of Mableton, Georgia; sister, Desserine Standifer of Grandview, Missouri; grandson, James Green, III of Kansas City, Missouri; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral Serivces will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024, 1pm at Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Interment Leavenworth Nat'l Cemetery, LVNKS. Visitation from 12pm-1pm at the chapel. Services conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Condolence may be shared on our website.
