Funeral services for James Kenneth Greer, Jr., age 88, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Boone Funeral Home, Leland. There will be a visitation from 1:30 p.m. until service time. Burial will be in the Leland-Stoneville Cemetery. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family on May 14, 2025.
James was born March 19, 1937, in Cleveland, MS, to James and Thera Gray Greer.
He graduated from Arcola High School in 1955. He lived and farmed in Hollandale, MS. He was a second-generation farmer, retired in 2010. He loved to fly airplanes, and in the early days, did his own crop dusting on the farm. He loved to fish, especially deep-sea fishing.
He was known to family and friends as Ted. The story goes that his mother, whose maiden name was Tedder, started calling him Ted, and the nickname stuck.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his son, Kenneth Gordon Greer, his brother, David Greer, sister, Margie Ward.
He leaves his wife, Tresa Furr Greer, of 67 years, son James "Randy" Greer (Wanda); two daughters, Leesa Greer Knight (Jon), Tiffany Greer Mowers (Ben) and three grandchildren, Heather Greer Randle (Michael), Jessica Knight Ringle (Dan), Jonathan Knight (Angela) and 6 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to your church or charity.
