James Grenke Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Coats Funeral Home - Clarkston on Nov. 19, 2024.
James Philip Grenke, of Clarkston, Michigan, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on October 1, 1936, in Detroit to Ferdinand and Clara Grenke (née Thieda). A graduate of Pershing High School in Detroit in 1954, James' life took a momentous turn when he met Diane, the love of his life, at the Guardian Angels Teen Club in Detroit. Their first date-a ski trip with the club-marked the beginning of a lifelong journey together. They married in 1958, creating a beautiful family and sharing 66 joyful years of marriage. James was a dedicated employee of General Motors, where he worked as a metallurgical lab tech specialist for nearly 30 years. His commitment to lifelong learning was exemplified by his associate's degree, which he earned with the support of GM. He retired at the age of 56, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and expertise. A man of many passions, James was an avid hunter and active member of the Oakland County Sportsman Club, where he enjoyed skeet shooting. When winter arrived, he and Diane cherished their time in the warmth of Phoenix, Arizona.
Jim's greatest pride and joy were his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Diane Mary Grenke (née Senkmajor); his children: Dawn Koontz, Pam (Tressa Gardner) Willis, and Jimmy (Gayle Tolbert) Grenke; his cherished grandchildren: Brandon, Lauren, and Allie; and great-grandchildren: Waylon, Greyson, Sawyer, and Weston. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Freddie, Geri, and Delphine. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church (5481 Dixie Highway, Waterford), with visitation beginning at 9:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers family requests donations be made to Michigan Humane Society or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
