James A. Grimes, 100, passed away on February 8,2024. James was born in Bath County Kentucky on July 29,1923 to the late Ernest and Ruth Grimes. James attended grade school, and at 16, went to CCC Camp where he helped farmers build bridges and tend to their farms. At 17, James was drafted into the military and proudly served his country in World War II as a gunnery sergeant. While serving his country, he won several medals for his dedicated service to the US Army. At a later age, James enjoyed spending time with his family and collecting antiques. Other than his parents, James is predeceased by his wife, Jewell Grimes; sisters, Wanda and Faye Grimes; and great-great granddaughter, Addison Grimes. Left to remember James are his daughter, Patsy Plunkett; grandchildren, Curt (Rosemary) Barker; great grandchild, Courtney Norris; great-great grandson, Sebastian; niece, Dana Gartrell; sister-in-law, Linda Tanner; as well as many other friends, family, and loved ones. A visitation will be held at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Main Street on February 14,2024 from 11AM to 12PM with funeral service to follow directly after. Burial will take place at Lexington Cemetery following the funeral service.
